Thriller, War

Richard Alex Jenkins

Fatherland is a thriller in the mould of works by John Grisham, Dan Brown and Jeffrey Archer, with a twist.

"What if Hitler had won the war?"

Imagine an alternate history where the world was ruled by Nazi Germany?

Philip K. Dick had a similar idea in The Man in The High Castle published in 1962, 30 years before this, in 1992, although interestingly, Fatherland is set in 1964!

The difference though? Just about everything.

Philip K. Dick’s book is abstract and difficult to grasp. Split into meandering chapters from multiple perspectives with little or no discernible plot. It's difficult and mesmerising and certainly not for everyone.

Fatherland, on the other hand, is a gripping, fast-paced, easy-to-read thriller for the bestseller masses.

Same concept and era, but different books entirely. It depends what you’re looking for? Straightforward with a decipherable plot, or weirdly abstract?
